Amsler Grid Testing

When you visit Alberta Retina Consultants, our doctors or staff may give you an Amsler grid to test your vision with on a regular basis. When you are looking at an Amsler grid you are looking for any distortion in what should be a straight lined grid.

How to use the Amsler Grid:

1. If you wear eye glasses, be sure to have them on while using the grid

2. Look at the grid with one eye at a time, covering the other eye with your hand

3. Make sure to focus on the centre dot

4. Continue to stare at the centre dot, and ensure all the lines are straight and the squares are the same size.

5. If any area on the grid appears blurred, distorted, discoloured, or abnormal contact our office at (780) 448-1801.

6. If you have a copy of the Amsler Grid, feel free to draw on the grid where any areas of distortion are and bring it with you to your next appointment.
