Dr. David Ehmann

Dr. Ehmann was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan.  He completed a 3-year BSc in physiology with great distinction followed by a 4-year Doctor of Medicine from the University of Saskatchewan.  Following medical school, he moved to Edmonton to complete a 5-year ophthalmology residency at the University of Alberta.  After residency Dr. Ehmann completed a 2-year medical and surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.  Dr. Ehmann then returned to Edmonton to join Alberta Retina Consultants.


Dr. Ehmann is extensively trained to manage all medical and surgical diseases of the vitreous and retina.  He is board certified in both Canada and the United States and has published over 25 journal articles as well as 2 book chapters.  He is an Assistant Clinical Professor with the Department of Ophthalmology and he is involved in both mentoring and training medical students, residents and fellows. Dr. Ehmann served as the fellowship director for the University of Alberta retina fellowship from 2017-2020. He also served as the president of the Retina Society of Alberta (RSA) from 2022-2023 and he is the current president of the Eye Physicians and Surgeons Association of Alberta (EPSAA).  Outside of work his interests include spending time with his family at the lake, golf, skiing, windsurfing and classical violin.
