Stellar Medical Treatment

Published in the Edmonton Journal

June 17, 2015

The Alberta health-care system gets maligned and maybe it’s justified in some cases. But we have found just the opposite to be the case.

Twice now, my wife Bonnie has suffered a retinal tear, a very serious detachment that, if not treated immediately, can lead to permanent blindness. Four years ago, she suffered the first tear, so we went to the emergency department at the Royal Alexandra. They sent her upstairs to the Regional Eye Centre, where she was quickly diagnosed and operated on within two hours by the very capable and kind Dr. Rizwan Somani.

The second occasion was just a few months ago, with the same thing happening to her other eye. She was now a patient of Dr. Somani at the Alberta Retina Consultants. She called in the morning, got an appointment that afternoon and was operated on the very next day by another wonderful doctor, Brad Hinz. When someone can ensure continued enjoyment of one of God’s greatest gifts, we are certainly very appreciative.

We also want to note that all the staff at the Royal Alex, the Regional Eye Centre and the Alberta Retina Consultants showed empathy and professionalism.

What great, gifted doctors. Words cannot express our heartfelt gratitude.

Leo Seguin,
St. Albert
